Clarification on
March 20th Professional
Development Day (PD Day):
Change and modification almost always
leads to some confusion and that certainly occurred when the Union and District
agreed to change the March 20th PD Day to April 6th. Please look at February’s Newsletter page 5 for more
information. Here is a further clarification, please read carefully:
1. Friday March 20th
• The District and the
FA, AFT 6157 have agreed to move the March 20th PD Day to April 6, 2009. As we
stated in an earlier email, this it not a work day and no faculty need to be on
campus as it is the first day of spring break.
• As an addendum to
this earlier agreement: March 20th will be recognized as another PD Day for
faculty independent study and/or curriculum development. No faculty needs to
be on campus and faculty scheduled to teach on March 20th will not hold class. Faculty need not submit any plans for the activities they will
participate in on March 20th. This change in the Spring
2009 academic calendar is for the 2009 academic year only. Full Time
non-instructional faculty do not have to make up those
6 hours from March 20th.
2. Adjunct faculty may apply for an Alternate
Professional Development Activity for the new PD day, April 6th, 2009 (in order to receive up to 3 hours of pay) by following the
requirements set forth in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) Articles
11.7 and 11.8. The alternate plan may include activities included in Article
11.6 and any others that fulfill the goals and objectives set forth by the
Board of Trustees. The plan must be received by the Professional Improvement
Committee (PIC) at least 3 weeks prior to the newly scheduled PD Day (by March
16th, 2009). Once the alternate plan has been received, processed and
recommended for approval by the PIC to the President, the adjunct faculty
member may request the appropriate pay as outlined in Article 9.14 of the CBA.
The forms are available on our web page if you wish to apply.
